Legal Movie Download Sites

By Kyle Wright

If you go to the movies or rent a recent film you might see an advertisement that is against illegal downloads. While showing a car thief, words flash, "You wouldn?t steal a car, you wouldn?t steal a TV, then why would you steal a movie?" While the commercial seems over the top, it is meant to make a point.

Is downloading movies off the internet illegal? If it is, how can people get caught? And what are all the repercussions to downloading a movie?

As stated before, there are many programs out there but one of the more popular ones is the programs Bear Share. Bear Share encourages the users to have shortened videos and movie files less than fifteen minutes long but that doesn?t stop the users. If the file isn?t complete then it is broken down into parts.

Another notorious program similar to Bare Share is Limewire. Often files are placed on there well before their boxed release or their theater release. Movies like Frost Nixon, American Gangster and Grand Torino was on there well before they were scheduled to be out.

It is almost like you own the rights to the movie but you don?t. How about watching streaming films on internet browsers? You do not have the actual movie on your computer, you cannot replicate it. All you can do is watch the feed on your computer.

By far, the most popular format would be the wmv format. You will see more videos in this format than any other format because it was designed for Windows. If you own a PC, all you need to do is download and open in Windows Media Player. If you own Mac then you would need to download the video player.

If you are into streaming videos then you should look in the Real Media files or rm file formats. To play this on either a Mac or PC, you will need a Real Media Player. To watch movies instantly, then you will need to go to their site and download the player.

One type of streaming file format is the swf. Sites like Youtube use this format to play movies in their web browsers. To watch these films you will need Adobe Flash Player, which is free for download on their webpage.

Two formats that PC users might want to be aware of is the .mov and the qt file formats. These file formats are dedicated to the Apple users. To view this you will need an Apple QuickTime Player. If you are a PC user and see this format, you might want to keep looking.

Each format has many different features. Some are geared to compressing large files, some try to get quality, some are made for the Mac users and some are made for streaming. You should research the different format before downloading the file to your hard drive.

Once you know what file suits you and your computer you will need to have the video player. Most can be found on the designer?s website or on download.com. And do not to forget to set your favorite player as your default player. - 15634
