Looking for a Healthy Meal? Try Fresh Lobster!

By Shannon Linnen

When you're on a diet, it can be maddening trying to get the nutrients you need, and still lose weight. One of the hardest things is trying to find a lean protein that's good for you, and that you like to eat. Tofu is always an option, but isn't the same as meat. Red meat isn't an option of course, but chicken gets tiring, after a while. And fish has been reported to have high mercury levels, meaning you shouldn't eat it every day. So what protein can you enjoy? How about some fresh lobster!

You may think of lobster as a special, high in fat, bad for you food, but in fact the opposite is true. Lobster tastes so good it feels like it must be bad for you, but three and a half ounces of the meat has only 90 calories, making it lower in calories than even chicken! And it's a great source of protein, just like the other, higher in calorie meats. So by indulging in lobster, you're actually doing something good for yourself, and you don't have to feel guilty about including fresh lobster in a healthy meal.

It may be hard to swallow that lobster is good for you, when all of the information you've seen in the past is that it's unhealthy. But the fresh lobster meat itself has always been healthy, it's simply the way that it's been prepared that hasn't fit a dieters lifestyle. By dipping fresh lobster in butter, the calorie and fat count of course goes up. And there is a lot of fat in a creamy soup like a lobster bisque. But when prepared, a lobster is steamed, meaning the meat itself is free from oils and fats.

Lobster is also a great source of omega three fatty acids, which you've probably been seeing on the news lately. Found naturally in many types of fish and shellfish, omega three fatty acids are seen as essential for heart health. They are such a hit that they're being added to many other foods. Fresh lobster is a great way to get these great heart benefits because it can be prepared in such a low calorie way. It's also a great way to get the protein that you need to have energy throughout your day.

How can you enjoy fresh lobster in a healthy way? Lobster makes a great addition to a salad, in chunks, it's rich taste is a wonderful way to use less dressing and add a kick to what you're eating. You can also try a few pieces on a slice of quality bread, like rye or pumpernickel, to mix the strong flavors. For dinner, try some whole wheat pasta dressed with a little oil and some lobster meat. It's sure to be an instant family favorite.

Are you ready to ditch the chicken and bring in the fresh lobster? I know I am! Fresh lobster is a great and healthy alternative to boring, tired old menus, so spice up your dinner tonight! - 15634
