The Invention Of The Board Short

By James McFadden

Beach wear will never be complete without board shorts. Not only are they a regular sight near the water, but are also part of other sports and casual wear. Looking no different from knee length pants, these surfer shorts are baggier in nature but stay compact and light.

It is little wonder that the shorts are also popular with people in countries experiencing warm weather. They provide airy comfort and can be worn in all sorts of occasion. The fast drying nature also lend support to their use in water sports.

Surfers and swimmers are not the only ones who prefer them. There is increasing sight of board shorts being worn regularly by fighters in martial arts. These sports require wide ranging movements, and they can be supported by wearing them.

Board shorts typically have waist ties that can be easily adjusted. A comfort fly and ease of wash are also features that are common throughout various designs. For color and designs, most of them typify the free spiritedness of surf culture.

Paddle shorts are another form that prevent friction injuries due to high contact water sports. A layer of durable water repellant is over used both internally and externally. This protects sportsmen like paddlers and canoeists from suffering wear and tear due to the nature of their sports.

Materials that are widely used in producing board shorts include polyester supersuede and Todos Twill. Polyester supersuede is fast becoming the choice material for most brands and makers due to their low cost and quality.

Surfers generally tend to opt for the long standing brands of Billabong, Hurley and Roxy board shorts. All companies produce both men's and women's designs as the clothing is high popular with people of all ages, sex and sizes. Even larger size designs have been made for the extra market.

For anyone wanting to get their hands on good bargains, board shorts can be easily found online. Prices might vary but they are usually comparatively low compared to retail shops. And with the ever present beach culture, they are always a choice attire for many. - 15634
