Understanding Cosmetic Eyelid After Surgery Care

By Ann Lim

Cosmetic eyelid surgery has gained widespread popularity with both men and women due to it being painless and fast. It also gives the patient a younger look. In order to ensure a positive result from the operation, one must be well informed of what to expect and do after the surgery.

However, eyelid surgeries can still end up unsuccessful despite the safe nature of the procedure. While part of this depends on how good the surgeon is, the patient's contribution in after surgery care is also vital. If the doctor's advice is not taken during the healing stage, it might lead to poor results.

Eyelid surgeries often involve making incisions to remove skin or fat tissues underneath the eyelid. As with any open wound, they will require some time for healing. The instructions on how to care for the incision cuts will be provided by your surgeon who has to ensure after-op success.

One of the dangers to avoid is a swelling of the operated area. Listen to your surgeon's advice on how to prevent the area from getting dry. This is done by applying the medicinal ointment provided by the doctor. Sometimes ice packs might be required in order to help reduce swelling and inflammation.

There will also be medicine provided to eliminate, or at least minimize, scarring as a result of the surgical cuts. Unfortunately, this is a very sensitive procedure that must be given your utmost attention.

Another point to note after the eyelid operation is the physical discomfort you might experience. This includes slight pain and the usual urge to scratch the area around the wound. This can be countered once again using the anti bacterial and steroid creams from the doctor, while keeping the area clean at all times.

Most eyelid surgeries require around two to four weeks to heal. Results after that are often fantastic and you will have brighter looking eyelids to celebrate. Resist the temptation to partake in any activities such as staying out late and parties to allow your eyelids to heal properly.

After recovery, the cosmetic eyelid surgery will result in a younger, brighter and better looking you. That is a main reason why many have sought to have it done, regardless of upper or lower eyelids. Just remember to always listen to the doctor's advice as they will know best for your care. - 15634
