On the cutting edge of styling, skin weft weaves are a great way to transform your hair. This beautiful weave is virtually undetectable when completed correctly. Unlike other weaving methods, a skin weft weave can be completed over a very short amount of time.
Just like other bonded weaves, you're applying a weft using a bonding substance. However, regular bonded weaves require the weft to be placed on the scalp. A skin weft weave is completed by applying wefts (tracks) of human or synthetic hair to your natural hair by means of a bonding agent, such as bonding glue.
If you're thinking of getting a skin weft weave, it's important to remember that heated styling appliances can ruin your style if used in close proximity to the actual bond. Running a ceramic iron over a bond can cause the glue to melt, so make sure to be careful when using those types of styling tools while your skin weft weave is in place.
Skin weft weaves work best with human hair, but synthetic hair can also be used. Human hair is preferred because it's stronger and it can be colored, heat-styled, and wet-set. Some synthetic hair can be wet-set, but if you plan on styling it any other way, you should use human hair. Always make sure to match your natural hair with the color and texture of the extension hair you choose.
To complete a skin weft weave:
1. If you can, start by straightening the hair beforehand. This is so that you won't have to straighten over the bond. Always start with clean hair. Hair that has oil, products, or gels in it can cause the bond not to adhere properly.
2. Your first part will be at the nape of the neck, from the left side to the right. Measure your weft to the desired length and cut where needed. Then, apply the bonding substance to the track of the weft.
3. Take your weft and place it as close as possible to the scalp, but so that it is still remaining on the hair. Press down to secure the hold.
4. Make your next part, and all additional parts, about 1/2 of an inch thick. Brush the hair between the application of each track to avoid tangling.
5. Continue to do this until you don't have enough hair to part horizontally. When this happens, the remainder of the hair will be used for blending and to create the natural part. Make a part 1-2 inches from the top of the forehead where your client will wear their part. Part the hair as desired. Take the rest of the remaining hair and cover the wefts and blend with the extension hair.
If your skin weft weave is in need of styling, and you need to use a ceramic iron, be very careful not to touch the bonded part of the weft to the ceramic iron. Doing so will cause the glue to melt, the bond to break, and your weft to fall out.
You should expect your skin weft weave to give you 2-4 weeks of beautiful hair when cared for and completed properly. - 15634
