To Fix Slow Computer Problems, You Need The Right Tools

By Ed Lathrop

Being in the business of repairing computers, I find there is one question I get asked far more than any other. It is, "why is my computer running so slow?" A slow computer seems to cause more aggravation to the computer owner than any other problem.

In this article, I'm going to talk about a couple of things that slow down computer operations and then one lesser known problem that is becoming a major player as a computer slower downer.

Spyware Is Still A Problem And So Is Registry Corruption

It is well documented what spyware and viruses can do to a computer's operation. It can slow it down and in extreme cases it can cause the computer to be unable to start up. Even worse, spyware can steal a person's identity! For these reason, most people have spyware/virus cleaners installed on their computers.

Registry corruption is another problem that will slow a computer down and even kill it altogether. Because of this, most people have elected to install a registry cleaner on their computers. Great choice! For some reason, registry corruption is more of a threat to Windows XP and Vista than the older OS's.

It is possible for a computer to be spyware/virus free as well as free of registry corruption but still be slow. It used to be when I found a problem like this I would have to look for another problem and very likely it would be a big job to track down this problem.

Drivers Do Cause Problems Sometimes

So, when a computer is in this condition, a technician will have to go work. The problem in a case like this is often a buggy or outdated device driver. The trick is to find the one causing the problem and then find a new one to replace it and then install this new driver. All this can take hours.

Enter The Driver Scanner

However, we don't have to perform this tedious job anymore. Now we can use a driver scanner that will do the whole job of checking for and finding drivers that need an upgrade and then actually finding and installing the upgrade for us. It does all of this automatically!

So, installing a driver scanner on your computer is another weapon you now have to will keep your computer running at top speed for many years to come. This will eliminate the need to pay guys like me to deal with any problems you may run into caused by poorly functioning device drivers. - 15634
